This year’s PokerStars Caribbean Adventure is going to be very exciting with all of the various events taking place but one event is extra special. PokerStars has been working with amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS research, to create a high profile charity poker tournament. The tournament will feature top poker pros, sports stars and celebrities, playing poker to raise money for the cause.
The tournament will have a buy-in of $5,250 and will take place at the Atlantis Resort and Casino on Paradise Island on January 8th, 2010. Half of the total prize pool will be going to amfAR to help support their research and help raise awareness to HIV/AIDS.
PokerStars sponsored sports stars Mats Sundin, the NHL Olympic gold medalist, Boris Becker the Tennis legend and French rugby star Sebastian Chabal are all members of Team PokerStars pro and expected to participate. Other PokerStars pros are expected to participate as well.
Daniel Negreanu commented: “PokerStars is bringing a truly innovative and fulfilling cause to the PCA this year through their partnership with amfAR. As a member of Team PokerStars Pro, I feel very lucky to be able to participate in, and contribute to, such a worthwhile cause in the name of AIDS research.”
PokerStars will be running special online qualifiers for players to be able to win their seat to the event. Players who win seats will earn a trip to the Bahamas and be able to rub elbows with the sports stars, celebrities and poker pros while they support the great charity.
Gregory Boroff, amfAR’s vice president and director of development commented: “amfAR is grateful for PokerStars for providing this opportunity to bring AIDS awareness to a new audience and to raise critical funds for AIDS research.”
