WSOP Main Event Seats Easily Won At Bodog Poker

BodogPoker has guaranteed 5 WSOP Main Event Prize Packages every week, two awarded on each Sunday. Due to a considerable decline in tournament entries, it has become especially easy to win a seat in the 2008 WSOP Main Event via the online poker room.
In the past two weeks, BodogLife.com (formerly Bodog.com) has seen an average of 66 players competing in the Sunday tournament. Even with such low entry rates, Bodog Poker continues to dole out the two promised WSOP Main Event Prize Packages each weekend.
It costs $250 to buy-in to the tournament directly, but more affordable satellite tournaments are held throughout the weekend, awarding a seat in Sunday’s WSOP Main Event Semifinal tournament. As to why participation levels have been so low, we can only speculate; but the fact that the Sunday Main Event Semifinals are held at 3:15 a.m. ET might have something to do with it.
Each 2008 WSOP Main Event Prize Package awarded by Bodog Poker is worth $12,000. The first $10,000 goes to cover the buy-in costs at the World Series of Poker Main Event. The remaining $2,000 is awarded to cover travel costs and accommodations throughout the tournament, plus spending cash.
The 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event is scheduled to kick off July 3rd in the Amazon Room of the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bodog Poker will be hosting WSOP Main Event Semifinals every Sunday through the end of June, up until the start of the poker world’s most prestigious event; the World Series of Poker.
PokerStars Sunday Million Poker Tournament Goes To ‘Iron Henry’

PokerStars, the largest online poker room in the industry, held it’s regular Sunday Million tournament over the weekend, with a massive guaranteed prize pool of no less than $1,000,000. British online poker player ‘Iron Henry’ bested a field of 7,001 entries, accelerating the total prize pool to $1.4 million.
As the tournament dwindled to the final two competitors, ‘Iron Henry’ went heads-up against American poker player ‘ShankingYou’, who proposed to split the prize down the middle, rather than battling it out for 1st. ‘Iron Henry’ rejected the idea initially as his chip stack greatly outweighed that of the American. After a short break in play, however, ‘ShankingYou’ returned with renewed vigor, shrinking the Brit’s lead to only a few thousand chips.
‘Iron Henry’ gave over to the proposal, agreeing to split $266,842.40 ($133,421.20 each) before dueling head to head for an additional $30,000. When all was said and done, ‘Iron Henry’ pocketed a grand total of $163,421.20, and the PokerStars Sunday Million title.
Rounding out the top finishers were ‘Hobbybob’ of Germany in 3rd ($70,010), ‘Etushekki’ of Finland in 4th ($56,008) and ‘Jlost88′ of Canada in 5th ($42,006). Overall, it was the Americans who found the PokerStars Sunday Million to be the most lucrative, claiming 4 top-ten positions in the tournament. Finishing in 6th place was American player ‘Duffman08′ ($30,804), 9th went to ‘Redhookesb’ ($12,601) and 10th to ‘RckHound23′ ($8,261); each American online poker players.
PokerStars.com reported that both Sunday Million Second Chance tournaments went to Norwegian poker players, including the $215 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo tournament and the $5,200 Freeze-out.
This is not the first time the Sunday Million’s guaranteed prize pool has exceeded its expectations. In fact, recent months have proven that PokerStars truly is the largest online poker room in regards to active player volume, revealing a Sunday Million prize pool as high as $2.4 million due to so many entries.

Ultimate Bet Awards Bad Beat Jackpot To ‘dhc2lovr’, Again!?

On Tuesday, March 25, online poker player ‘dhc2lover’ claimed a whopping $171,498.31 for releasing the Bad Beat Jackpot at popular online poker room, UltimateBetPoker. Just one and a half months later, ‘dhc2lovr’ is making headlines again, having won yet another UltimateBetPoker.com Bad Beat Jackpot for nearly half a million dollars - $448,920.71 to be exact.
While it would seem a healthy round of applause and congratulations are certainly in order for this unlucky/lucky poker player, that is not the predominant attitude emanating around the virtual water cooler.
It wasn’t that long ago that Ultimate Bet’s sister-site, Absolute Poker, was involved in a tremendous scandal where it was found that high-up officials were involved in cheating. Absolute Poker’s name was dragged about the mud for quite some time, as members of the online poker room were mortified and extremely perturbed at the corruption at underhanded dealings within the online poker room. Even today, Absolute Poker - though it has time and again assured its members that the issue was resolved, resulting in the resumed security and integrity Absolute Poker once stood for - is still recovering from a great loss of loyalty and memberships.
Being so closely related in cooperation with Absolute Poker, it is now being speculated that Ultimate Bet is also involved in such underhanded dealings. The popular consensus is, ‘How could the same person win two Bad Beat Jackpots in only a month and a half? What are the odds?’
Perhaps ‘dhc2lovr’s run of bad luck truly is a lucky phenomenon, but it would seem most online poker players will not feel entirely comfortable without a thorough investigation into the matter.

Most online poker rooms offer satellites and qualifiers in their tournament section, and these games are fast becoming some of the most popular ones surpassing scheduled tourneys as well as STTs.For those who may not know, online poker satellites are qualifiers to larger, more prestigious events (some of them live, some of them online) which also feature much bigger buy-ins. It was about 20 years ago that someone had first thought up the idea of a poker satellite. There were always people who would’ve liked to play in generously prize pooled tournaments had they had the money to buy into them. It only made sense to get a group of ten of these guys to play in a preliminary tourney which featured the tenth part of the buy-in of the main tournament. One of them (the winner) would then go on to play in the big one, because the ten buy-ins paid out by his opponents would be enough to pay his big buy-in. Of course, the house that organized the satellite would also make some money on it all, so the satellite buy-ins were slightly bigger than exactly 10 percent of the original buy-in.
With the advent of online poker, satellites have become wide-spread and extremely popular, because with the intricate satellite and sub-satellite system that every online poker room offers, everyone gets a chance to make it to an event he could only dream of otherwise. Some say, online poker satellites are partly responsible for the huge popularity explosion that poker has seen in around 2004. Remember that both 2003 WSOP Main Event winner Chris Moneymaker, and the 2004 Champion Greg Raymer, had earned their WSOP seats through such satellites. Despite their enormous popularity though, there are very few articles out there about satellite strategy.
The strategy that one needs to deploy in a satellite is sometimes radically different from what one may have gotten used to playing in regular MTTs. A large part of your strategic approach depends on how many seats or packages the satellite offers. There are two fundamental types of tournament players. One, called by experts the ”fox”, the other guy called “the farmer”. The fox is a player who’s not content with making it to the money, He does everything it takes to give himself the best chance for victory. The farmer, on the other hand, has adapted to surviving and to slipping into the money unnoticed time and time again.
If the satellite you play in only offers a single seat in the event of your dreams, being a farmer will do you no good whatsoever. You’ll have to be a fox, like it or not. Most direct satellites do offer several event packages though, and in such situations, being the farmer pays off better.
What exactly are the differences – strategically speaking – between a fox and a farmer though? Let’s take a look at the bubble for instance. That is the stage in the tournament when the elimination of a handful more players will mean the survivors reach the money. Most people tighten up on the bubble, to ease up a bit when it finally bursts. That means, play on the bubble will be tighter than usual, and people will generally be more willing to fold the better hand when faced with a raise. At this stage, farmers join the crowd and they tighten up. Foxes, on the other hand, seize the opportunity, recognize the value and they risk knowing that there is money out there ripe for the picking.

Players will find that registering for two almost simultaneous tournaments will be a challenge but the pay out would be well worth it.
