If you’d rather not leave your house to play in a major poker tournament, then you’re in luck. The world of online poker is bringing big tournaments right to your monitor! Two of the largest events around are the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) on PokerStars.com and the new UltimateBetPoker Online Championship (UBOC).
The WCOOP was started in 2002 and has been hugely successful. By the 2006 WCOOP, there were 18 events with a guaranteed prize pool of $18.5 million. The Main Event, with a $2500 buy-in, attracted 2,510 players, had a prize pool of $6.2 million, and paid out $670,194 to the winner. Highlights of the 2006 WCOOP included a $1000 buy-in $1 million guaranteed tournament and a $5000 HORSE event. Satellite qualifiers for the WCOOP are only held on Pokerstars.net, but they are plentiful. The satellites are only available during part of the year, preceding the World Championship of Online Poker events themselves.

The UBOC was new for 2006, but has already generated significant interest thanks to its $2 million prize pool. Scheduled to be held in early December, the Ultimate Bet Online Championship is a 10-day series of tournaments that is capped off by a $500 buy-in No Limit Hold ‘em with a generous Million-dollar guarantee. Because the tournament is exclusive to UltimateBet Poker.com, the only satellites for the UBOC are found on UB. However, they are running them day and night, and direct entry satellites start as low as $5 + $0.50!
You can qualify for any of the WCOOP or UBOC online poker tournaments via satellite tournaments from Poker Stars or Ultimate Bet.
