“Luie Sojo” Takes Down FTOPS-XI Event #9 For $115k

The Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS XI) has already seen 8 events come to a close, without a single overlay in the mix. Event #9 was no different as “Luie Sojo” routed a field of more than 1,000 players to take home the top prize of $115k.

FTOPS XI Event #9 featured Heads-Up No Limit Hold’em action with a $500+$35 buy-in and a guaranteed prize pool of half a million dollars. As 1,332 entrants took to the one-on-one virtual felts, the purse climbed to $666,000 – an ominous sign for some, perhaps, but it’s doubtful “Luie Sojo” and “Plz_Stop_Lookin” saw it that way.

Forging their way through one challenger after another, Luie Sojo and Plz_Stop_Lookin thrust their way through the competition to face one another in the final battle of heads-up play. No stranger to one-on-one combat was the event’s host, Full Tilt Pro Chris “Jesus” Ferguson, 2008 National Heads-Up Poker Championship winner.

After 13 hours of play over the duration of the event, including success in multiple heads-up conquests throughout, Luie Sojo finally emerged the victor, earning the FTOPS XI Bracelet and $115,884. Plz_Stop_Lookin was awarded $69,264 for the impressive 2nd place finish.

This was the first of two Heads-Up challenges in the Full Tilt Online Poker Series. The second, Event #18 $200+$16 PL Omaha with $100k GTD, will take place Thursday, February 12th at 2pm ET, hosted by Full Tilt.net Pro Soren Kongsgaard.

On a side note, there have been numerous incorrect postings on the number of players in FTOPS XI Event #9. If you head over to Full Tilt Poker.com’s FTOPS XI Schedule & Results page, you’ll see listed 1,132 participants in Event #9. This is an apparent typo. If you open the Full Tilt Poker Lobby, there were 1,332 players in the tournament. Also, by dividing the overall prize pool of $666,000 by the $500 buy-in, you’ll get 1,332 entries.
