Daniel Negreanu
They call him the one and only “Kid Poker”. Many of pokers greatest names are among his dearest friends, and still others count him as their mentor. He is Canadian poker star Daniel Negreanu and he is hard as heck to beat. With a set of World Series of Poker bracelets and a pair of World Poker Tour titles to his credit, it is no wonder when people see Daniel Negreanu coming, they sweat.
His poker beginnings found him dropping out of high school to start life as a rounder just one credit shy of graduating. It was while trotting around Toronto building up his bankroll that he met Evelyn Ng who he would go on to tutor and, ultimately, date. At 21, he’d finally earned enough, he’d decided, to make the move he had been waiting for - to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he could take his professional poker ambitions to that next crucial step. Unfortunately, this particular trip turned out to be a false start, as he quickly sapped his funds and had return to Toronto and square one.
Daniel Negreanu’s big entrance onto the poker scene came in 1997 when he won $133,600 in two separate events at the World Poker Tour Finals at Foxwoods. He also earned himself the title of the tournament’s best player all-around, an accolade that’s followed him throughout many competitions through to today.
He became the youngest player to win a bracelet in WSOP history at the 1998 World Series of Poker when he won the $2,000 Pot Limit Hold’em event (and $169,460). He has won numerous major tournaments like California State Poker Championship and the United State Poker Championship. He’s notched scores of in the money wins above $50,000. In 2001 he won four different tournaments in four different events - Omaha 8 or Better, 7 Card Stud, Stud 8 or Better, and (of course) No Limit Hold’ Em.

When the Wynn Las Vegas resort first opened, they honored Daniel Negreanu as their official “Poker Ambassador”, giving him free reign to play for any stake they offered in their cardroom. He played this role until October 2005 when he found it too restrictive.
In December of 2005 he launched his own online poker room, Full Contact Poker, where he plays under the name “Kid Poker” (of course). Through this site, he launched a campaign to find a protege to whom he would teach everything he could about the game as well as buy in to 4 $10,,000 re-buy tournaments. Brian Fidler was the first to be given this honor, and it led to him placing 2nd out of 110 players in the Harvey’s Lake Tahoe 2006 World Series of Poker circuit event (the second of his four Negreanu-sponsored events) and heading home $206,800 richer.
Daniel Negreanu was a contributing writer for Doyle Brunson’s revered poker tome Super System I, and he has written more than 100 articles for the esteemed CardPlayer Magazine. He has given private poker lessons to celebrities, such as Spiderman himself Tobey Maguire, and Rob Mariano, Survivor winner, on the Fox Reality show Rob and Amber: Against the Odds. He’s also been known to tutor at Poker School Online.
Negreanu appeared on all the major televised poker series, like Poker After Dark on NBC, Late Night Poker on British TV, Hight Stakes Poker on GSN, and Ultimate Poker Challenge (in syndication). He has also been featured in the video game “Stacked with Daniel Negreanu”.
Daniel Negreanu is among the elite poker celebrities that frequent the famous “Big Game” at the Bellagio, a $4,000-$8,000 Limit Hold’ Em cash game, which is easy for him to get to as he lives in Las Vegas, with his wife Lori Lin Weber.
In 2007 Daniel made the jump to Poker Stars and began promoting the PokerStars.net brand full time. His face can not only be seen all over your television, but now at one of the top online card rooms available today.
