William Reynolds Wins PokerStars Caribbean Adventure High Roller Event

Visit Poker Stars

The $25k PokerStars Caribbean Adventure High Roller tournament was an exciting event in the Bahamas. Eight four players posted the large buy-in to compete for four days to try and win the $500,000+ first place prize. In the end it would be William Reynolds who took down the title.

Several top poker pros participated in the event which included Greg Raymer, Mike Matusow and Daniel Negreanu. But the most recognizable poker pros would not make it to the final table. Reynolds would be a notable player but he is not as well known as other poker pros.

Reynolds has been very successful over the past few months with a 4th place finish at the 2009 EPT San Remo. Reynolds is a regular player at PokerStars and he is a frequent winner during tournaments at the top poker room.

Reynolds commented on his recent win at the PCA by stating: “It was the most roller coaster of a ride I’ve ever been on. I was all in so many times at the end of Day 3 it looked I was going to be the final table bubble. I ended up doubling up four times in a row and making it to the final table, chipping up, winning some key hands and taking it down.”

Reynolds would have to face Will Molson in heads up play before he could claim the title. In the end the two would compete for about three hours before the final hand would take place. Reynolds had earned the chip lead when he went all in A-10 against Molson’s K-9. The flop was 5-7-9 and J-A was no help on the turn and river for Molson so Reynold’s earned the first place win.

Final Results:
1st: William Reynolds – $576,240
2nd: Will Molson – $322,075
3rd: Adolfo Vaeza – $218,150
4th: Michiel Brummelhuis – $154,350
5th: Lisa Hamilton – $133,770
6th: Tobias Reinkemeier – $108,045
7th: Matt Marafioti – $87,465
8th: Dmitry Stelmark – $66,885

Visit Poker Stars

PokerStars is known as the number one online poker room for many reasons. They offer large guaranteed tournaments, they have the best poker pros on their team and they offer several land tournaments each year for player’s enjoyment. The list could go on and on but let’s focus on tournaments.

PokerStars recently announced a new tournament series called the Americas Cup of Poker or ACP. The new series will begin on the 27th of July and see players from thirteen countries located throughout the Americas and three wildcard teams competing for big money.

The countries eligible for the new series are the United States, Mexico, Ecuador, Canada, Columbia, Uruguay, Chile, Venezuela, Peru, Costa Rica, Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. The point of the series is to split players up into teams by country. Each country will be split up into four groups with each group having four countries in it.

The teams will then face off against each other in daily free rolls which will be $.20 and $5.50 tournaments. The top 100 individual finishers of each tournament will earn points for themselves as well as their team. Tournaments that players buy-in to will offer more points than the free rolls. For example a first place finish in a free roll is worth 600 points while a $.20 player will earn 1,500 points for first place.

The top two countries in each group will move on to the live final. Each team in the live final will have one PokerStars pro and then the five players who earned the most points for their team during the online qualifiers.

The live final will take place at a ski resort in Bariloche in Argentina. The top eight players will be paid at the live final. Fifth through eighth place will earn $10,000, fourth will earn $20,000, third earns $30,000, $60,000 goes to second and first earns $100,000 and their country will be named the winner of the Americas Cup of Poker.

PokerStars Supporting PPA by Offering FreeRoll

Visit Poker Stars

The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) is a nonprofit organization that supports gambling as a form or entertainment in the United States. The PPA recently announced the dated for National Poker Week (July 19th through the 26th) and along with that announcement, the PPA stated they have a new website where players can help support the right to play games of skill like online poker. The website is called PokerPetition.com and players can log on and sign the petition which will be sent to president Obama on July 22nd.

To help support the PPA’s petition efforts, PokerStar.net has announced they will reward petition signers with one entry into a $3,500 free roll. Anyone who signs the petition through the special PokerStars link will earn a spot at one of five free rolls. The link for players to earn the entry is www.PokerPetition.com/pokerstars.
The free rolls will take place on June 27th, July 4th, July 11th, July 18th and July 25th, all at 14:30 ET. Each tournament is limited to 20,000 players and the top finishers of the tournaments will split the $3,500 prize pool.
The petition is short and sweet but it gets to the point. It reads:

President Obama – Poker is Not a Crime
I am a voter and a fellow poker player asking for your support of my right to play games of skill like poker on the Internet.
This issue is not lost on the American public. We recently made our desire for this liberty known through your Citizen’s Briefing Book website. Of the thousands of proposals submitted, a proposal supporting Internet poker rights was the number one issue on technology policy.
What’s most important to me is your support for my rights. Please: 1) exempt poker from the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) and 2) license and regulate internet poker in the US. 3) Respect the rights of law-abiding Americans who love to play this great game of skill.

Most poker players will be signing the petition anyway so signing up through PokerStars is a great way to earn a little extra cash while supporting the right to play poker.

2009 WSOP Satellites Now Running at PokerStars

Visit Poker Stars

As the 2009 World Series of Poker draws near, more and more online poker rooms will begin to host online satellites for players to qualify for various WSOP events. PokerStarsrecently began offering satellites for their players to gain entry into the Main Event. Players have three ways to qualify: FPP Qualifiers, Steps Qualifiers and Cash Qualifiers.

The FPP Qualifiers will offer the least amount of options to get a WSOP Main Event seat. Three seats a week will be given to players during the FPP WSOP Qualifier Saturdays which will begin at 4pm EST. daily super satellites will also be available on the site.

The Steps Qualifiers will give players the opportunity to work their way through a tiered tournament system which has six levels. Each tournament will award a ticket to the next step to the top players of the tournament. A few of the runners up will earn a ticket to repeat the step they were on or they will move down a step. Either way, the players will still be in contention to move up a step if they play well.

Players participating in the Cash Qualifiers will find they can enter two open cash qualifiers each week. A $650 qualifier will take place on Sundays at 6pm EST while a larger buy-in qualifier, $1050, will take place on Fridays at 8:30PM EST. If players do not want to pay the large buy-ins they can participate in super-satellites which will lead to the large buy-in qualifiers.

Each type of qualifier can be found on the PokerStars.com website by clicking on the events tab and then WSOP. Players will then be able to choose which type of qualifier they would like to participate in. With so many options to choose from, it should not be hard for players to find the right kind of satellite qualifier for them.

If you want to practice first, check out PokerStar.net – the PokerStars play money site.

Visit Poker Stars

Once again, the PokerStars flagship event – the Sunday Million – attracted an enormous field of online poker players. And once again, the already sensational $1.5 million guaranteed was trumped, this time worth $1,732,800.

Unlike most of PokerStars Sunday Million tournaments, this time around, the winner is taking home an astounding 1st place prize like he’s never witnessed before. “StefanProdan” earned more than $200k for the victory, with his largest recorded tournament cash up to this point being a 76th place finish in the Full Tilt Poker Sunday Brawl, worth $772.52.

The action got underway with 8,664 players converging on the tables. The top 1,260 players would see a piece of the lucrative prize pool. As the players dwindled, the final table was eventually formed.

One by one, the virtual rails became packed. The 3rd place exit of “Bob Vitis” resulted in heads-up play between StefanProdan and young American Joel “jbrown04″ Brown.

These two players have a lot in common, neither having earned a significant prize in online poker tournaments. Brown’s largest cash was for $4,470 in January of 2009, being the only 4-digit cash recorded on his roster. No matter what happened, both would walk away extremely happy men.

As fate would have it, it was StefanProdan that would take the 1st place victory and the impressive payday of $209,842. Brown was easily consoled with a $141,223 cash for the 2nd place finish.

PokerStars Sunday Million Pays $200k+ To Winner “livelikunger”

Visit Poker Stars

The PokerStars.com Sunday Million, awarding a guaranteed prize pool of at least $1.5 million on a weekly basis, has clearly become the hot spot for online poker tournament fans. This weekend, the massive tourney at PokerStars drew enough participants to increase the guaranteed prize pool, once again, to more than $1.65 million.

Already claiming the number one position in the online poker industry in regards to active player volume for quite some time now, PokerStars grew even larger in the final quarter of 2008; especially in the month of December. In fact, according to last week’s reports, PokerStars now maintains about 35% of the entire online poker industry’s traffic. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that PokerStars is avoiding overlays at every turn of the MTT schedule.

Last Sunday, PokerStars attracted 8,504 entrants to its largest weekly guarantee, the $1.5m Sunday Million. With a $200+$15 buy-in, those numbers boosted the prize pool to an intimidating $1,653,600. As the action got underway, the participants knew that 1,260 of them would finish in the bubble.

Just making the prize pool is one thing, but earning a seat in the final table was the honor of nine highly skilled competitors. One by one, the table dwindled, each claiming their respectable purses as they made their way to the virtual rails. Finishing in 3rd was Kappe85, whose $91,775 payoff effectively eased the pains of elimination.

Heads-up play ensued between “livelikunger” and “dxu05”, both worthy of their positions after displaying talented longevity in the online poker tournament. At some point, the Sunday Million had to come to an end, as it always does; and thus  “dxu05” suffered the wrath of Lady Luck with a 2nd place finish, earning $134,768. “Livelikunger” was crowned the victor, walking away with an impressive 1st place prize of more than $200k.
