Sit N Go Satellite to Poker Stars Sunday Hundred Grand

Visit Poker Stars

I sat down on Sunday afternoon to play in a sit and go satellite tournament at Poker Stars that awarded the top 6 finishers seats at the Poker Stars Hundred Grand Guaranteed tournament. This event was a $2.20 buy in and started when we had 36 players seated at 4 tables. To gain entry to the Poker Stars Sunday Hundred Grand, the direct buy in is $11. So gaining entry to this tournament directly is not out of some players grasp.

I jumped out to a great start within the first 2 hands by completing a King high straight to all buy knock out one player and then flopping the nut flush on an other player to bring my initial $1500 in chips up to almost $4k. However, my play slowed down dramatically for me after that. I didn’t want to continue to rely on the luck of the table so I went into a tight, conservative role. By luck I don’t mean I was sucking players out either. I was making the correct plays, but just getting lucky in completing the better hand.

Play was quickly reduced to 3 tables as the initial10 players exited the tournament within the first 5 minutes of action. Then within the first 20 minutes we were down to 2 tables and I was sitting in 5th chip position and looking like I had a great chance to qualify for the Hundred Grand Guaranteed Tournament!

After play was reduced to 2 tables, it seemed that every player at my table switched into the extremely conservative role except for one, mr.dier. Mr.dier was able to take advantage of everyone else’s seemingly inability to play their game out of fear of being knocked out at this point. This some what included myself as I tried to avoid confrontations with this player since his enormous chip stack could easily push me off hands if I went to the flop with him. However, this in combination with the fact that I went extremely card cold widled my chip stack down to about $2k before we even hit the first break.

My luck in the first two hands of the poker tournament had seemingly worn off and I was in danger of falling out of this tournament. I then picked up 2 huge pots and found myself back at the top of the leader board with over $6k in chips. The first hand I had a 5-2 in the hole and had made 2 pair on the board with a possible flush on the board as well. I went all in on the river to semi bluff down the pot. The very next hand I landed 77 and went all in against a reraise and out raced my opponents A J. A few hands later I ousted one player with A J after flopping an ace, then beat out an other player with KK against his AK. This put me in first position with over $12k in chips.

I entered the final table about 4th in chips after I bluffed off about $3k in chips the last hand before the final table was established. I made a play at a pot holding pocket 6’s with a potential flush on the board. I put the other player all in and he made a great call holding A-9 with an ace on the board. At this point, all that I needed to do was to finish ahead of 3 more players and the seat at the Sunday Hundred Grand was mine!

I knocked out the first player with A-7 of clubs against their 8-9 offsuit. No one made a hand so my Ace high held up. Player #2 got knocked out when his Kings ran into someone else’s set of 8’s. The last player, who was ate up by ante’s and blinds, finally was forced into a showdown with his 5-2 against an other players 99. The 9’s held up and my ticket was handed to me to the Sunday Hundred Grand! Let’s see if I can bring home the big prize now.
